While Virgin River is known for cozy charm and heartfelt romance, it doesn’t shy away from its darker threads—and no storyline is more intense than the one involving Paige, her abusive ex-husband Wes, and his twin brother Vince.
Now that Season 4 brings this long-running arc back to the forefront, here’s a deep dive into who Wes and Vince really are—and why their presence continues to haunt Virgin River.
Who Is Wes?
Wes (played by Steve Bacic) was introduced in Virgin River Season 1 as Paige’s abusive ex-husband. Though he doesn’t appear right away, his shadow looms large over Paige (Lexa Doig), who hides under the name Michelle Logan while running her bakery and raising their son, Christopher.
Wes was a corrupt police officer who manipulated the legal system to control Paige—filing a false restraining order and painting her as the abuser. Fearing for her safety, Paige fled with Christopher, violating custody agreements and landing herself on the FBI’s radar.
Things come to a head in the Season 1 finale:
Wes tracks Paige to Virgin River, tries to force her and Christopher to leave with him, and turns violent. During a struggle, he falls down the stairs and dies.
Rather than report the incident, Preacher (Colin Lawrence), who’s fallen for Paige, helps her cover up the death—and the two make a pact to protect Christopher no matter what.
Then Comes Vince…
Just when fans thought the Wes chapter had closed, Season 2 delivered a shocking twist: Wes had a twin brother.
Enter Vince, also played by Steve Bacic. Like Wes, Vince is a law enforcement officer—but with a serious grudge and dangerous questions.
Convinced that Paige had something to do with his brother’s disappearance, Vince arrives in town looking for answers—and Paige. He’s more calculating, more menacing, and just as relentless.
Kidnapping, Drugging, and Deception
Vince’s obsession escalates at the end of Season 2. After Paige vanishes for safety, she sends Christopher to stay with Preacher. But Vince tricks Preacher using Paige’s so-called friend Sally, who drugs him—leaving him unconscious while Vince kidnaps Christopher.
This jaw-dropping twist kicks off one of Season 4’s main plots: Preacher’s mission to track down Vince and rescue Christopher, all while uncovering just how deep Vince’s vendetta runs.
Season 4: Preacher’s Redemption Arc
Season 4 opens with a tense search for Christopher, Paige’s potential return, and Vince’s next move. While Virgin River thrives on love stories and second chances, the Wes–Vince saga reminds viewers that danger can lurk even in the most idyllic places.
“We wanted to show that this town doesn’t just heal hearts—it protects them,” co-showrunner Sue Tenney said. “Preacher’s loyalty to Paige and Christopher is the emotional core of this storyline.”
What’s Next?
With Virgin River‘s upcoming seasons promising more twists, it’s safe to say Vince may not be the last ghost from the past. Will justice be served—or will Vince strike again?
