Did Mel Lose The Baby In Virgin River?

Although the surprise that Mel and Jack are having a baby together at the end of Virgin River season 4 is a joyous discovery for the couple, season 5 reveals that their dream of expanding their family might not come to fruition. During the fire that hits Virgin River in season 5, Mel experiences symptoms that could be consistent with a miscarriage. Mel gives herself an ultrasound in Doc’s examination room that shows no heartbeat, which seemingly confirms the worst. After the fire is contained, Jack and Mel tearfully embrace, but since they don’t verbally confirm the cause behind their emotions, it’s not immediately clear if Mel had a miscarriage.

Sadly, it is later confirmed towards the end of Virgin River season 5 part 1 that Mel did indeed lose her baby. This tragic event causes Mel a great deal of emotional turmoil, as this miscarriage combined with her previous pregnancy struggles become too much for her to bear, and she feels as though the universe doesn’t want her to have children. However, during the Virgin River season 5 part 1 finale, Mel realizes she needs a change of perspective, and her conversation with Jack at the end of the episode suggests that she still wants to start a family, even if it’s not exactly how they imagined.
Virgin River Season 5’s Calvin Twists Explained
virgin river calvin
At the beginning of Virgin River season 5, it appeared that the villainous Calvin was dead, but a major twist during the part 1 finale reveals that might not actually be the case. In the ending of Virgin River season 4, Calvin’s boat exploded with him seemingly on it, which left the drug operation leader presumed dead going into Virgin River season 5. However, Calvin’s appearance at Virgin River’s fair in the season 5 part 1 finale reveals that he is very much alive and apparently has unfinished business.
Perhaps even more surprising than Calvin having survived the explosion are his stated intentions now that he’s back in Virgin River. At the end of the part 1 finale, Calvin reveals that he has a surprising connection to one of Virgin River’s residents, which will undoubtedly have major implications once it’s revealed to the rest of the community in Virgin River season 5 part 2.
