Casualty fans know that Doctor Dylan Keogh (William Beck) often prefers the company of his cherished dog Dervlato any human so he was understandably devastated when he learnt from the news that her cancer had spread, leading to heart-wrenching moments in Saturday night’s episode.

The BBC drama opened with Dylan at the veterinary clinic, where he described Dervla’s lack of energy, poor appetite, and difficulties with bowel movements. The vet informed him that Dervla’s condition was dire as her cancer had metastasised, suggesting they cease treatment and focus on her comfort.

Despite this, Dylan insisted on further tests and any possible measures to save his beloved dog. Throughout the episode, Dylan’s thoughts were consumed with worry for Dervla, causing him to overlook signs that one of his patients had suffered an assault.

A staff meeting was interrupted when Dylan received a call from the vets, who regretfully told him there was nothing more they could do; it was time to euthanise his dog.

In the emotionally charged moments that followed, Dylan soothed Dervla with gentle words as she was sedated before receiving the final injection, reportsxpressed his deep affection: “You’ve been the best friends I’ve ever had. I hope I’ve given you a good life.”

As the vet delivered the euthanasia drug, Dylan continued to caress Dervla, reassuring her with the words: “Just look at me, it’s ok, it’s ok.”

Dervla’s breathing gradually ceased as the vet left them alone for a moment. Through his tears, Dylan whispered his final words to his beloved pet: “Sleep well, sweetheart Sleep well.”

In the show’s closing moments, Dylan was seen walking home with Dervla’s lead in hand, while Sophia Peters (Kellie Shirley) appeared to offer him comfort.
