Celebrating a momentous occasion — “one month since my first episode” of General Hospital — Rory Gibson took to social media to say that he’s “honored to be here” at ABC’s only daytime drama
In response, castmates and fans alike weighed in on his portrayal of Michael Corinthos. “Man, we love you so much,” cheered Katelyn MacMullen, who on screen is Michael’s ex, Willow Tait. “You’re absolutely killing it!”
Viewers agreed wholeheartedly with that sentiment as they sang Gibson’s praises. One even called him the “best recast in soap opera history.”
Another member of the audience thanked Gibson for “coming into the role knowing the importance of getting it right.” Indeed, there could be no margin for error, not with a character that is at once a Corinthos, a Quartermaine, a business mover and shaker and a father of two — make that three now.Even the actor’s old pals from The Young and the Restless, where he’d been woefully underused as Noah Newman, were solidly in his corner. “Hell ya,” exclaimed Cait Fairbanks, who plays Noah’s old flame, Tessa Porter. No two ways about it, the feat that Gibson has pulled off is impressive. He stepped in for Chad Duell, who’d spent nearly 15 years playing Sonny and Carly’s son and from day one owned the role.
