And just like that…the tears returned in the Monday, August 4 episode of Days of Our Lives. And so did Sami Brady, who’s back to support her mom, who is going through an incredibly tough time mourning the loss of the love of her life. Plus, Sami shared her regrets regarding her relationship with John. And she got a little face time with her son, too.

Sami Remembers John

We finally have Sami’s perspective on the loss of a hero, the man with whom she had such a complicated relationship. It felt like a missing element to the whole John’s Goodbye story arc.

As soon as Marlena (Deidre Hall) set eyes on Sami (Alison Sweeney), they reconnected, hugged, and remembered the amazing man that was John Black (the late Drake Hogestyn). Over and over again, Sami mentioned how awful she was to Marlena’s greatest love, that she had blamed him for so much, and that she didn’t deserve his forgiveness.

She now sees how John was there for her even when she despised him. And she sees everything that he did for her. She appreciates him in a way she never did before. In addition, she wishes she had had the time to keep strengthening their relationship. Marlena, in turn, assured Sami that John loved and respected her and wouldn’t want her to have regrets. She also said that he never judged her and was proud of her.

Finally, Sami apologized for blaming him for her unhappiness and insecurities and said she thought they had plenty of time. Most of all, she thanked him for showing her how to be strong and brave.

Strategic Flashback

At one point, Sami said she would take care of Marlena now. Just like she had asked John to take care of her dad and mom after she was convicted of murdering Franco.

That clip they showed was very strategic. In it, Sami wanted John to protect Marlena from Stefano. And while John felt Stefano wasn’t a factor, she said she didn’t believe it. And that she didn’t think Stefano would ever be out of their lives.

In addition to it being a great Sami/John scene, did DAYS pick this specific clip because of all the ‘Stefano is Alive’ talk going on right now? Should we be reading into that?
