Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that there’s a story behind the Sophia Choi recast, so here’s why Rachel Boyd replaced Madelyn Kientz. It was Kientz’ choice to leave the role, but that left DOOL in need of someone who could jump in fast and portray Sophia instead.
Rachel Boyd was already on Days’ radar since she auditioned to play Sophia back when they were initially casting the part.
Although the show went with Kientz the first time around, Boyd got her own chance to play Sophia following Kientz’s departure.
In an interview with SOD, Rachel Boyd explained that things didn’t go her way after a callback session, but then she got good news out of the blue nine months later.
While Boyd was working a serving shift at another job, she received a call from both her manager and agent. That led to Boyd learning she had an opportunity to be on Days.
From there, Boyd quickly moved from the small town of Newmarket in Canada to the big city of Los Angeles.
Within a few weeks, Boyd had settled in LA and was already filming on the show.
Boyd confessed that “it was such a shock” to get that call, especially since she wasn’t sure which part she’d scored at first.
Because Boyd had auditioned for multiple roles, her manager looked into it and came back to her with Sophia updates.
That’s when Boyd faced another shocker since she found out Sophia was in a teen pregnancy storyline.
Although Boyd admitted to some initial fears about tackling something she’d never experienced, she also appreciated the chance to do the story justice.
“So I was excited to get to delve into something that I didn’t think I would so early in my career,” Boyd said.
Days fans can expect plenty more twists and turns for Sophia and Tate Black (Leo Howard) in the coming months, so we’ll pass along more predictions on all the continued baby drama.
