Rafe is about to make a career pivot.

Since the Friday, April 25 episode of Days of Our Lives, we have been thinking about the scenes involving Rafe and Jada’s breakup. Specifically, what he told her after he realized that she really wanted to break things off with him.

New Gig for Rafe?

Jada (Elia Cantu) and Rafe (Galen Gering) came to a somber end in the interrogation room of the Salem Police Precinct during the Friday, April 25 episode. It was unfortunate because this has arguably been their healthiest Salem relationship ever for both of them. That’s not saying as much for Jada, considering she has only been in town for a couple of years.

But Rafe has been part of the Salem community for roughly 17 years. He and Jada were super cute and were headed for marriage until EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) and Rafe’s doppelganger, Arnold Feniger (also Galen Gering), blew their relationship out of the water. The engaged couple slept with other people, and the baggage between them became too much. They couldn’t recapture their trust or their glory days.

But Rafe dropped a surprise announcement during the break-up convo:

Yeah, you should also know that as soon as Steve comes back from Estonia, I’m gonna resign from Black Patch. I got a call from my old boss at the FBI, and he offered me an out-of-town position.

Rafe continued saying he was “on the fence about it, but I suppose in light of recent developments, I’m gonna accept the offer.”

What Does This Mean?

We’ve replayed this scene repeatedly and wonder what this means for Rafe and Galen Gering, the actor who’s played Rafe and his doppelganger since 2008. There haven’t been any announcements, so we assume that Rafe could be off the canvas for a while, but he will return someday soon.

After all, the way Rafe and Jada left things, they could reunite down the road after they live their separate lives and heal from the damage that was done and the trauma that they suffered. Rafe was held captive for weeks. Jada was humiliated in front of much of the town at her wedding. She practically lost her job. The man she thought was Rafe dropped her like a hot potato.

Even though they both need a break from each other, who knows? Jada has this connection to Shawn (Brandon Beemer) that keeps her in his vicinity. Rafe could explore more with Sami (Alison Sweeney) in Italy. There may be other relationships to experience, but this may not be the end of Rafe and Jada’s story. It can always be revisited.
