Ruth Buzzi, who had roles on Passions and Days of Our Lives, has passed away at the age of 88. Her official Facebook page announced, “July 24, 1936 – May 1, 2025. Ruth Buzzi died peacefully in her sleep at home in Texas. She was in hospice care for several years with Alzheimer’s disease. Memorial arrangements by Lacy Funeral Home, Stephenville, Texas to be announced. Her family requests donating to Alzheimer’s research (www.alz.org) in lieu of flowers.”
Ruth was a formidable American actress and comedian, captivating audiences on stage, in film, and on television. She is best known for her outstanding performances on the comedy-variety show Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In from 1968 to 1973, during which she won a Golden Globe Award and garnered five Emmy nominations.
Born in July 1936 at Westerly Hospital in Westerly, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of Rena Pauline and Angelo Peter Buzzi. Raised in the village of Wequetequock in Stonington, Connecticut, she grew up in a stunning stone house overlooking the ocean at Wequetequock Cove.
Ruth Buzzi’s Career
Buzzi attended Stonington High School, where she excelled as head cheerleader. At 17, she enrolled at the prestigious Pasadena Playhouse College of Theatre Arts, graduating with honors in June 1957.
Shortly thereafter, she moved to New York City and immediately landed a lead role in an off-Broadway musical revue—the first of 19 performances she undertook across the East Coast.
Her national television recognition began with The Garry Moore Show in 1964, and she appeared on Saved by the Bell, The Muppet Show, and more. Buzzi also made her mark as the eccentric Nurse Kravitz on NBC’s daytime soap opera Passions and played Leticia Bradford on Days of Our Lives.
