EJ and Kayla are on a mission.

Standing in Gabi and Rafe’s house, Leo accused Gabi of attempted murder and tried to prove it by rifling through her purse. Chanel contemplated the fact that she may never be a mother. And EJ was the winning bid on the silent auction date with Cat. But that’s not all that happened in the Wednesday, April 30 episode of Days of Our Lives. A couple of life-and-death situations were also explored.

Miracle Drug Now

As soon as Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) heard that her brother Bo’s (Peter Reckell) health took a turn for the worse, she went into savior mode. Her immediate idea was the (very convenient) reality that there was a doctor at Salem University Hospital whose big breakthrough was a drug that could save patients from the effects of sepsis, mainly the shutting down of the organs.

So, she had a one-on-one with Dr. Jeffrey Russell (Michael Dietz), who empathized with Kayla. Unfortunately, the drug is still in its early stages. It hasn’t been tested on humans yet and hasn’t gone through the required FDA approvals. He said his hands were tied. Kayla even suggested that he give her the drug under the table.

The doctor wasn’t ready to jeopardize his research or findings, which was understandable. But then he chose that moment to tell Kayla he wanted out of his contract because he wanted to take his work to greener pastures. Greener here means a more lucrative job. After all, the hospital just had to raise money via “bake sales and bachelor auctions.”

Big Pharma was calling, and he’s answering. Could Kayla leverage the doctor’s thirst to get out of his contract? Could she require the drug for his freedom from the hospital? In the DAYS weekly video preview, Shawn (Brandon Beemer) suggests to Steve (Stephen Nichols) that they steal the drug. Which is the better way to go? Leverage the doctor’s freedom or steal it?

Susan and the Memory Card

EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) was on a mission to check out of the hospital. He didn’t give Kayla a choice, so he left the hospital after signing a document saying it was Against Medical Advice. And he hightailed it home just in time to run into Johnny (Carson Boatman), who obviously wasn’t ready to see him. Johnny didn’t stick around after saying his dad was dead to him. But on his way out, he bumped into Susan (Stacy Haiduk).

Unsurprisingly, she got one of her dark vibes. She told her son that Johnny was keeping a dark secret. Later, when EJ played the footage on the memory card, he saw Johnny training a gun on him. So does this prove that Johnny wanted to shoot EJ but didn’t? Because when Rafe (Galen Gering) retrieved the memory card after the shooting, it wasn’t in there. After all, we saw EJ discover Rafe’s spy cam before the shooting.

So, did Johnny change his mind about shooting his father? Is that what happened here? EJ could still be upset that his son hated him so much that he would want to kill him. But he could also be relieved that he had changed his mind, unless Johnny returned later and did the deed. Regardless, it does show intention, and it shows him with a weapon. His motives are clear as well.

There’s no way EJ can let anybody find the memory card.
