Marlena (Deidre Hall) admires the beautiful tribute that has been laid out for John. Each picture of them represents meaningful memories of their loving relationship over the years and adventures together. They packed a lot of love into the decades they’ve been in each other’s life.Three of John’s most enduring friendships were with his ISA boss, Shane (Charles Shaughnessy, l.), his partner at Black-Patch detective agency, Steve (Stephen Nichols, c.) and his partner during his time as a detective when he thought he was Roman Brady, Abe (James Reynolds). Each man knows they are better for having known John.Roman (Josh Taylor) and his sister, Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), speak on behalf of the Bradys, who for a few years were John’s family when he thought he was Roman. He was the only parent Roman and Marlena’s kids had for a time, when Marlena was also believed to have died.
John continued to play a pivotal role in their lives for decades. The flowers each of John’s kids – Belle (Martha Madison, l.), Brady (Eric Martsolf, l.), Paul (Christopher Sean, c.), Eric (Greg Vaughan) and Carrie (Christie Clark) – are holding played a part in John and Marlena’s 1999 wedding ceremony, with each flower symbolizing their family unity under the umbrella of John and Marlena’s love. “We often thought of our family as a garden of flowers, each child is unique, beautiful, cherished in their own way,” Marlena said at the time.Eric is a comfort to Marlena and Belle during this difficult process of saying good-bye to John. There isn’t anyone Marlena or John would have wanted to lead his service other than Eric. His past as a priest makes him the perfect person to do it.A tear comes to Marlena’s eye as she surveys the photos from their shared past once again. She and John had a lifetime of love and memories together, but it’s never enough. Andrew (Colton Little) joins everyone else in leaning their heads toward Marlena as they listen to someone unseen addressing them all at the podium. Could it be that it’s someone whom everyone loves, who owes his life to John?Hope (Kristian Alfonso) is by Bo’s (Peter Reckell) side as he makes his return to the family in Salem. Bo wants – actually he needs – to pay tribute to John, a man who was like a brother to him in so many ways.
