Marlena (Deidre Hall) was heartbroken when Sami (Alison Sweeney) wasn’t able to make it back to Salem for John’s (the late Drake Hogesyn) funeral, but she had a good excuse. She was at the airport ready to board a plane when Sydney fell and broke her leg. Sami stayed behind to tend to her daughter, but Sydney has clearly been recovering well.

EJ (Daniel Feuerriegel) was surprised to hear from Sydney that Sami was finally on her way to Salem. He did not seem pleased, but Marlena was thrilled. When Sami appears in her living room on Monday, mother and daughter are able to work through their grief together.

Expect to see flashbacks and tears as Sami remembers the man who was like a father to her, but to whom she also had a fraught relationship. In recent years, Sami and John were able to work their way through some of their differences, which makes his death even more devastating.

Will Sami have time to see EJ and Johnny (Carson Boatman) while she is in town? His trial is well under way and is about to get even more shocking as EJ makes a surprise move this week.

Cat and Chad’s elevator ordeal

Thanks to EJ’s budget cuts, the elevators are having issues at University Hospital, and Cat (AnnaLynn McCord) and Chad (Billy Flynn) got stuck in one. They end up spending the night in there, which sends Felicity (Kennedy Garcia) into a panic when she realizes her sister never came home the night before. Felicity seeks help from Chanel (Raven Bowens), who brings her employee and friend to the Salem PD to file a missing person’s report.

Meanwhile, Cat and Chad spend some more time bonding in the elevator. They both are tired, thirsty, and hungry, but they enjoy each other’s company and tell more stories from their past.

Finally, a maintenance worker fixes the elevator, but when the door opens, Cat and Chad are caught in a compromising position. Does something finally happen between them, or is the position all some sort of misunderstanding?
