The Bold and the Beautiful alum Clint Howard discussed what his method was in being on the soap.

Deacon is still unhappy that his friends Tom and Hollis were killed by the deranged Luna on The Bold and the Beautiful. For a time, Luna believed Tom was her father, but then she learned that her cousin Finn was actually her dad. Tom was portrayed by veteran actor Clint Howard, who is the brother of master filmmaker and former Happy Days star, Ron Howard. He recently appeared on State of Mind and dove into his career and acting on the soap.
The Laugh That Launched a Career
General Hospital’s Maurice Benard (Sonny) was thrilled to have Howard on State of Mind, and promoted it on Instagram with the caption, “I didn’t know what to expect, I found Clint to be a really good guy, we had a really good connection from the start. He had a ton of knowledge. He’s been a celebrity since he was a child. His brother is one of the best directors in the world.”
Howard discussed his early acting, explaining, “Ron started when he was three or four years old, and I technically started when I was two. So, we had a hell of a run of being in the entertainment business.” He explained that when his brother was working on The Andy Griffith Show, his mom brought him to the set so they could watch Ron. The producers offered him a bit part where he got a laugh, and that’s when he started his journey as an actor.
Acting Ain’t Easy
Howard went on to explain, “I did Bold and Beautiful. Bold the Beautiful. 13 episodes.” He jokingly stated that the producers were eager to get rid of him, but then got serious, stating, “They were nice. Listen, I loved working on it.” He noted that he’d been acting for several decades, and that the soap was “an interesting animal.”
He stated that acting on a soap was a difficult task, remarking, “First of all, you can’t get to 100%. You can’t think as an actor…’I’m going to nail it every time.’” He then noted that his goal is to “get within 75% of what I feel like is an optimum performance.” Because of his run on B&B, Howard has been nominated for the 2025 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series.
