Speaking exclusively to Inside Soap, the star behind Holby ED’s fiery young nurse opened up about Jodie’s journey, her complicated family history, and whether we might finally see Nigel Harman reprise his role as Max.

“Two and a half years have gone by so quickly! I walk into work every day and I love it. It still feels new because every storyline is different. It’s the same set and I’m still playing Jodie, but it’s a different version of her each time.”

“The audience saw Jodie make mistakes, and they didn’t like it,” Anna admits. “Especially as she put Dylan in danger — and he’s such a loved character!”

But the flashback episode at the end of the boxset changed everything:

“We wanted viewers to go on that journey with Jodie. By the finale, they finally understood her better. It was a good response in the end — it showed people are deeply invested in the character and her story.”

This redemption arc laid the groundwork for even deeper exploration of Jodie’s complicated relationships — especially with Max.  

Max Cristie’s Absence — And the Big Question Fans Are Asking

Jodie hasn’t spoken to Max Cristie since he left Holby in March 2024, and fans have been clamoring for answers ever since. Where is he? Why hasn’t he contacted her? And could we finally see their strained bond repaired?

According to Anna Chell, there is hope — but patience will be key:

“I think Max is still in South Sudan, so who knows when he’s going to come back? You’d think he’d want to come back and see his daughter, wouldn’t you?”

She hints that Jodie’s journey of self-discovery is still ongoing — and a reunion with Max may only happen when she’s truly ready:

“In Public Property, as well as figuring out who she was, Jodie was also grieving her past with Max. Maybe one day when she’s older, she might contact him to ask those questions about why he left — but not yet.”
