Saving Summer: The Former DAYS Star Who Would Rock as the Y&R Heroine

There’s been no word on Summer Newman since she headed to Europe on a business trip last May, and actress Allison Lanier left The Young and the Restless after three years in the role. As a key member of one of the show’s core families, who’s been at the center of numerous storylines over the years, the popular character needs to be recast, and there’s a former Days of our Lives heroine who would rock the part: Lindsay Arnold (ex-Allie Horton).

Days of our Lives alum Lindsay Arnold.

Summer Vibes

Arnold totally fits the Summer mold. Like Allison Lanier and Hunter King before her, she has long blonde hair, big expressive eyes, and a carefree attitude. There’s a natural softness to Arnold, like her predecessors, yet a capacity for fierceness should the situation call for it. Also, of the three actresses, she most resembles Michelle Stafford, who plays Summer’s mom, Phyllis.

Arnold’s Tried and TestedLindsay Arnold Announces Her Exit From 'DWTS' Season 31 | Us Weekly

Arnold has already proven she can handle the daytime pace and thrive with heavy material. She carried a front burner plot from the minute she debuted on DAYS, when young Allie arrived in Salem pregnant via a rape. As the story unfolded, Allie confronted her attacker and struggled with whether or not to give her baby up for adoption; ultimately, she decided to keep her son, Henry.

Arnold excelled at every turn, naturally embracing onscreen motherhood. Hence, playing mom to young Harrison (Redding Munsell) on Y&R would be an easy fit. Her tenure on DAYS also earned her a 2022 Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series.

If she were cast as Summer, Arnold would enter the Y&R fold primed and ready to tackle a potential triangle. Remember, when Summer left town, she was pining over Kyle (Michael Mealor). The character’s feelings for her ex-husband had risen to the surface as she watched him move on with Claire (Hayley Erin) and eventually become engaged.

Arnold has already played out plenty of relationship highs and lows on DAYS. As Allie, she shared a sweet love story with Tripp (Adams), who embraced both her and young Henry into his life. That is, until the romance went awry, when she cheated on him with her best friend, Chanel (Raven Bowen). Then Allie vied with her twin brother, Johnny (Carson Boatman), for Chanel’s love and won, only to later betray Chanel by having a one-night stand with Alex (Robert Scott Wilson). So Arnold is well-versed in the daytime love game.
