General Hospital’s Finola Hughes revealed the jitters she had before joining her castmates on a popular game show.
Traditionally, Anna Devane has always kept her cool on General Hospital. In fact, the only time we’ve seen the former super spy come unglued was when she and Jason were in Africa, and it looked as if Sidwell’s men were going to execute them. But otherwise, the Port Charles police commissioner has remained calm in the face of imminent danger. However, her portrayer, Finola Hughes, faced a bout of jitters recently when she and some cast members were on a beloved game show.
Pre-Show Jitters
Several cast members from GH recently faced off against the cast of The Young and the Restless on Celebrity Family Feud. Hughes spoke to TV Insider about the fun event in which she and her co-workers played for a charity called the Nature Conservancy. She explained, “I was unbelievably nervous,” adding that, “I was so scared because answering questions in a public format is, like, my biggest fear.”
Her other castmates who participated were Donnell Turner (Curtis), Tanisha Harper (Jordan), Rena Sofer (Lois), and Maurice Benard (Sonny), with Hughes as team captain. She practiced beforehand with the help of her kids. However, whenever she would slap the counter, pretending to hit the buzzer, she would say, “Buzz.” But her kids managed to break her of that. “They forced me to do it without saying anything,” she quipped.
The Host to the Rescue
Hughes admitted that even the day before the show, she was nervous. And while hanging out with her castmates, she felt she needed to retreat to her hotel room for a time. “My social battery sometimes gets really overloaded,” she stated. “And I was like, ‘I need to go take some hours to myself.’” Lying in bed the night before the match, she ruminated on it, remarking, “I was doing a real number on myself, I’m not gonna lie.”
But a more relaxed mood was around the corner. “[Host] Steve Harvey makes me laugh, and he made the nerves go away because he was really, really sweet,” she explained. Harvey himself was thrilled to meet the actors and stated that his family would have enjoyed seeing them. With everything that was happening, the vibe was fun, and she remarked, “So that atmosphere makes you relax a little bit more.”
