The streamer officially renewed the beloved series for an 8TH SEASON, making it one of the platform’s longest-running live-action scripted shows in Netflix history. With season 8 on the horizon, the show will now surpass both Orange is the New Black and Grace and Frankie in longevity which is a major feat for the small-town drama.

Cast and crew were obviously thrilled by the renewal news and the show’s lead actress, Alexandra Breckenridge, didn’t take long to let fans know. She took to Instagram writing, “#virginriver keeps on keeping on!”

After sharing the news, it didn’t take long for fans to chime in on social media. The actress’ post lit up with plenty of excitement with fans leaving comments like, “the news we’ve all been waiting for! I’m so happy for you guys!” and “No fricking way!!!! So happy with that news❤️❤️❤️.” One wrote, “Can you hear my scream from Ireland 😂🙌🔥” Others even went as far as to suggest that the show goes on forever. Let’s just say that “Virgin River Nation” supports the show wholeheartedly.Virgin River Season 5 Set Photos Tease Curious New Pairings — Who's Back? : r/VirginRiverNetflix

“On behalf of myself and the whole Virgin River family, we’re eternally grateful to Netflix and to the fans for allowing us to continue this journey with these beloved characters,” showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Netflix’s Tudum.

For those new to the cozy yet drama-filled world of Virgin River (you have some major keeping up to do), the show follows nurse practitioner Melinda “Mel” Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge), who relocates from Los Angeles to the remote Northern California town of Virgin River for a fresh start. It doesn’t take long for her to discover that small town life is far more complicated than she expected. Packed with emotional twists, romance, and plenty of cliffhangers, the show has quickly become a fan fave since its debut in 2019.Virgin River Season 5 Preview: Watch the First 11 Minutes - Netflix Tudum

Season 7 just wrapped production and is expected to premiere later this year, continuing the saga of Mel, Jack, and the rest of the town’s residents. Season 8, currently in early development, is also slated to have 10 episodes, similar to the upcoming season. No official release date or trailer has been announced yet, but fans can likely expect the next chapter to arrive in early 2026.

Eight seasons in, Virgin River is proving that a rollercoaster of a storyline and a devoted fanbase can truly keep a show thriving. And, we’ll certainly be back with updates as they keep coming.
