A blown-up wedding usually means tears and turmoil on daytime. But in the case of General Hospital’s Willow, who’s been living under the spell of her manipulative lover, Drew, for the past year, it’s the wake-up call she desperately needed and will forever change the character for the better.
An Affair to Forget
Since beginning her relationship with Drew (Cameron Mathison), Willow (Katelyn McMullen) has become totally unrecognizable. She went from kindly and aboveboard to thoughtless and deceitful. In the process, she destroyed her marriage and happy life with Michael (Rory Gibson), lost custody of their children, Wiley and Amelia, and began spiraling into depression. So when Drew suggested they get married immediately, convincing Willow it was the step she needed to take to regain her kids, she went along with it.
Truth Bomb
However, minutes before the ceremony was about to start, she learned the huge secret Drew had been keeping from her; that while she was falling in love with him, he was sleeping with her mother, Nina (Cynthia Watros). After confronting Nina, who confirmed it was true, and expressing her disgust over the tawdry affair, Willow gathered her composure and moved forward. Then she walked down the aisle to her awaiting groom, leaving viewers perplexed as to what she’d do next.
Sweet Revenge
Would Willow let Drew have it with both barrels before dumping him at the altar? Would she become overwrought with emotions and thoughts and simply run off? Would she go through with the ceremony and then orchestrate a plan to get revenge against the man who betrayed her?
From the look in her eyes, any of the above was possible. Having finally gotten the wake-up call she needed, it was crystal clear that the bamboozled Willow of old was gone. The woman who had fallen easy prey to Drew was no more, and she was ready and determined to get her life back on track.
A Change Is Coming
It’s a change that’s been a long time coming. Willow started out as a beloved heroine. She was meek and mild-mannered and had a strong moral compass. But during her relationship with Drew, she dissolved into a spineless, gullible sap. Her principles disappeared, and she followed his every questionable lead.
Now that the real Drew has been exposed and Willow’s learned that she’s been played, she can pick herself up, dust herself up, and come back stronger than ever. At the core, she’s always been an intelligent woman. She’s a former school teacher and a current nurse. Between her book smarts and the lessons she’s learned while under Drew’s thumb, the sky’s the limit for the new Willow.
