Salem comes together to honor the remarkable life and legacy of John Black (the late Drake Hogestyn)—a man who, for over forty years, defined heroism and romance.

From international intrigue to epic romance, John lived a life larger than life itself. And yes—that’s a fact.

The celebration is heartfelt and deeply personal. Marlena (Deidre Hall) finds the strength to pay tribute to the love of her life. Belle (Martha Madison) shares a side of her dad not often spoken of—his surprising (and occasionally dad-jokes) sense of humor.

The outpouring of love continues, with touching words from Eric (Greg Vaughan), Brady (Eric Martsolf), Paul (Christopher Sean), Carrie (Christie Clark), Roman (Josh Taylor), Kayla (Mary Beth Evans)… and the list goes on. Even young Rachel (Alice Halsey) offers her own sweet remembrance of her grandpa prompting Marlena to draw for one of his iconic phrases, “Swing for the fences.”

As Salem grieves, it also remembers. It celebrates. And it honors. “Goodnight, my love,” Marlena whispers, as the town lays her beloved to rest.
