‘Virgin River’ Star Lauren Hammersley Hilariously Pressures Showrunner for Answers: “Am I Dead?”

Virgin River might be known for its dramatic twists, emotional cliffhangers, and scenic small-town charm — but behind the scenes, it’s also full of humor, thanks to stars like Lauren Hammersley.

The actress, who plays Charmaine Roberts, ex-girlfriend to Martin Henderson’s Jack, took to Instagram to poke fun at the suspenseful ending of Season 6 — and her own uncertainty about Charmaine’s fate.

Spoiler alert for those not caught up: Season 6 ended with a chilling mystery as Jack discovered Charmaine’s home completely trashed… and Charmaine nowhere to be found.

Naturally, fans have been buzzing about what that could mean for the character. But it seems Hammersley is just as curious — and she’s not afraid to ask the big question.

In a post shared on Friday, February 28, the actress uploaded a series of screenshots from her texts with Virgin River showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, cheekily confronting him for answers.

“Congratulations again, Sean! Beautiful season. Am I dead?” she texted.

Smith, clearly not ready to spoil anything, replied with a simple: “I love you so much.”

Not letting him off the hook, Hammersley responded, “I love you, too! You’re fantastic. It’s OK if I’m dead. I just need to know if I should start putting resumes out at Wendy’s or something.”
Then came the kicker:
“So… if Charmaine dies this year, could you please drown her in the river? I think that would be epic.”

In her caption, Hammersley wrote, tongue firmly in cheek:

“I’m a professional. This is how I professionally manage a professional conversation with [Virgin River’s] incredible showrunner, professionally. Because I’m professional. I’m realizing this is the same tactic I use to figure out if I’m in a relationship or not. Love you, Sean.”

Fans flooded the comments with love and laughter — and plenty of passion for keeping Charmaine alive.

“Charmaine can’t die,” one follower insisted. “I just started to like her!”
Another wrote, “I will riot if anything happens to Charmaine… truly.”

Whether Charmaine survives the chaos or not remains to be seen — but fans (and Hammersley) won’t have to wait too long for answers. Netflix has already greenlit Virgin River for a seventh season.

“There’s a lot more to go here with these characters,” Smith told Tudum following the renewal. “I think we’ve only just begun to see Mel and Jack function as a married couple, which is exciting.” Season 7, he teased, will dive into their honeymoon phase and the challenges of building a life on the farm.

As for Charmaine? We’ll be watching — and hoping — that her river moment is just metaphorical.
