In Virgin River, romance is always in the air. Whether it’s between Mel and Jack or Hope and Doc, the love is ever-present in their small town. Off-screen, the stars who portray the smitten counterparts have found love in their own lives. Find out which stars from Virgin River are married or single in real life!
Alexandra Breckenridge and Casey Hooper
On Virgin River, Alexandra Breckenridge’s character, Mel, is in love with Jack, but off-screen the actress has fallen for musician Casey Hooper. The couple first met in 2012 at an afterparty in Los Angeles. Hooper is the lead guitarist for singer Katy Perry, and they had just performed at the Grammys before he met his future wife.
Breckenridge and Hooper dated for two years before they got engaged in 2014. In September 2015, the couple tied the knot and have since welcomed two kids together: a son, Jack, born in 2016 and a daughter, Billie, in 2017.
“Let me also say that my husband is incredible—I’m a lucky girl!” Breckenridge shared.
Tim Matheson and Jennifer Leak
Tim Matheson and his first wife, actress Jennifer Leak, were only married for a short time before splitting up. The couple met while starring in the 1968 film, Yours, Mine and Ours. They exchanged vows that year when they were in their early 20s, but only remained married for three years, divorcing in 1971. Sadly, Leak passed in 2024.
Tim Matheson and Megan Murphy Matheson
Matheson’s second marriage was to Megan Murphy Matheson, whom he married in 1985. Not much is known about how the pair met, but they welcomed three children together: Molly in 1987, Emma in 1988 and Cooper in 1994. Matheson and his wife eventually split up in 2010.
Tim Matheson and Elizabeth Marighetto
Matheson is currently in his third marriage to Elizabeth Marighetto. Although it’s unknown when they met, their relationship was made Instagram official in 2016. They eventually walked down the aisle in 2018 and have been together ever since.
Benjamin Hollingsworth and Nila Myers
Benjamin Hollingsworth, who stars as Brady on Virgin River, has been married to Nila Myers for over a decade. The couple met in 2010 and had a quick two-month engagement, which resulted in a 2012 wedding.
The couple welcomed three children over the years — son Hemingway Nash in 2016, son Gatsby Willem in 2018 and daughter Juniper Bloom in 2020.
On their 7th wedding anniversary, Hollingsworth wrote a sweet caption to capture their milestone, writing, “My fairytale began 7 years ago today. I believe in unconditional love and soul mates because I experience it every day and I’m madly in love with mine.”
Colin Lawrence and Lucia Walters
Sometimes love bleeds from on-screen into real life, but in the case of Colin Lawrence and Lucia Walters it was the opposite. The couple first met during an acting class and their engagement was a part of one of their classes. After 18 months of dating, Lawrence proposed during a fake “boyfriend/girlfriend” audition.
“So, there we were, in the midst of this heated argument, and Colin starts ad-libbing,” Walters recalled. “He gets down on one knee, and me, still in character, went along with it … till he pulled out a ring. I finally clued in when I saw the casting director crying. I stuttered, ‘Yes!’ That was a day to remember.”
The couple married in 1999 and have since welcomed two daughters. Lawrence and Walters eventually became a couple on-screen in Virgin River, and while their on-screen romance didn’t last, the two have been together in real life for over 25 years.
Annette O’Toole and Bill Geisslinger
The former couple was married for just about a decade before splitting up. Annette O’Toole and Bill Geisslinger were together from 1983 until 1993 and welcomed two kids over the course of their marriage — daughters Nell and Anna
Annette O’Toole and Michael McKean
After her first marriage, O’Toole found love once more with actor Michael McKean (best known for his roles in Laverne and Shirley and This is Spinal Tap). The couple first met in the 1970s and while the two were friendly, they didn’t fall for each other until years later—specifically in 1998 when they starred in Final Justice. They exchanged vows in 1999 and have been together ever since.
Over the years, the couple has starred side-by-side in multiple projects, including Boy Meets World and Smallville. O’Toole and McKean have also collaborated in the music world, earning themselves an Oscar nomination for their song “A Mighty Wind.”
