Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers reveal that there are three reasons why widow Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) should stay single forever after John Black’s (Drake Hogestyn) demise. John’s tragedy will bring his love story with Marlena to a sad close, so she’ll kick off a grieving period before figuring out what’s next.

However, we’re hoping that Days writers resist the urge to pair Marlena up with someone else.

That brings us to those three reasons Marlena should stay single permanently, so let’s run down the list.

1) John and Marlena were soulmates

For starters, John was Marlena’s soulmate, so she may struggle with the idea of ever giving her heart to another man – at least at this point in her life.

Any attempt to move on romantically might feel like a betrayal on some level.

Of course, John would never begrudge Marlena happiness if she fell hard for someone new or even reunited with Roman Brady (Josh Taylor).

It’s just that Marlena may not realistically think that’s possible anymore after decades of adoring John.

2) No other love story could ever compete

Since John and Marlena really built something special together, no other love story could ever compete. 

It seems like a waste of time for Days fans to watch Marlena date somebody else when their romance would never measure up.

Marlena has already experienced what true love is like, so there’s no need to go down that road again.

DOOL writers should just leave Marlena single and let her focus on the love she has for her family in the aftermath of this grim John news.

3) Marlena has plenty of other things to do

After all, Marlena has tons of other things to do on canvas besides dating.

John’s extended time away proved that Marlena can work perfectly fine as a character without a love interest around.

Marlena is consistently used in storylines that call for therapy and hypnosis.

Plus, Marlena is always willing to step up for her friends and family members when they need her.

Days can still use Marlena in so many different ways without having to plop her in another romance that isn’t going to work.

That’s why we’d argue it’s best for Marlena to maintain her single status – even after she’s taken the time to properly mourn for John.
