Dante has been left furious at Gio after blaming him for what happened to Rocco on General Hospital. And while it’s an easy way to set up the big reveal that they’re father and son, there are so many more reasons why Dante’s anger is actually valid.
Grief
After Gio (Giovanni Mazza) explained his role in finding the passed-out-drunk Rocco (Finn Carr) at the college bonfire, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) unloaded on his old pal from Bensonhurst. He ripped into Gio for not calling him, and immediately noted how many times he’s had to tell parents that their child didn’t make it after a drunken night. Noting Dante’s experiences as a cop was a great way to justify Dante’s intense anger over the situation, worrying his son could have the same fate as many other cases he’s witnessed.
But the other reason Dante’s extreme reaction works so well is his grief. It’s only been six months since he lost Sam (ex-Kelly Monaco), so the thought of losing anyone else, let alone his son, is unbearable. Everyone has been so caught up in Kristina’s (Kate Mansi) grief that they’ve almost ignored Dante’s.
What Happens Next?
Now that Dante is furious with Gio, it sets up the perfect opportunity for the two to be rivals ahead of the big reveal that Gio is his son. Gio is suddenly one of Dante’s least favorite people, and it’s left Gio devastated. And once the truth comes out, the father and son will already have some issues to work through.
