The first installment ofย Kevin Costnerโs Western epic โHorizon, an American Sagaโ is set to premiere out of competition at Cannes Film Festival.
Costner directed the four-part project, which he also stars in with Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington and Jena Malone. The โYellowstoneโ and โDances With Wolvesโ actor will be on the Croisette to present the film on May 19.
โHorizonโ will also be released in theaters in two parts, with the first installment bowing on June 28 and the second on Aug. 16.
โIโd like to thank the Festival de Cannes for including my film โHorizon, an American Sagaโ in this yearโs selection,โ Costner said in a statement. โItโs been 20 years since Iโve had the pleasure of being on the Croisette. Iโve been waiting for the right time to return and Iโm proud to say that this time has come.
โHorizon, an American Sagaโ is a story that began 35 years ago, and I canโt think of a better place than Cannes to reveal to the world the result of such a wonderful adventure. The French have always supported films and believed deeply in filmmaking. Just as I believe deeply in my filmโฆโ
โHorizon, an American Sagaโ is described in the festivalโs press release as a โmonumental project about the cost, in terms of war and violence, of the construction and expansion of the United States of America.โ
Costnerโs project joins the Cannes Film Festival out of competition lineup alongside George Millerโs โFuriosa: A Mad Max Sagaโ and opener โThe Second Act,โ directed by Quentin Dupieux and starring Lรฉa Seydoux and Vincent Lindon.
The full Cannes selection will be unveiled on Thursday. Other films rumored to be making their debuts at the festival include Francis Ford Coppolaโs โMegalopolis,โ the fate of whichย Varietyย hears is still to be decided, and Yorgos Lanthimosโ โKinds of Kindnessโ starring Emma Stone.
